Me as a learner.

I believe that this year I have learned a lot about myself as a learner. Certain things about my myself have stood out more than others, like the fact that I cannot focus on a paper put in front of my face. I love to move around and interact with my learning. I believe that that was best represented at science world when we went on our class trip to Vancouver. While I was in Science World there were so many interactive things that you could touch and play with but at the same time you were learning and gaining so much knowledge.
Another thing I have learned about myself as a learner is the fact that I tend to be a natural leader, I can never just sit back and do nothing while the group is in chaos. There is always something I could be doing, like helping someone who is stuck on a question.
There is never a day in my life when I am not happy to come to school because to me learning new things is so fascinating that I want to learn more and who better to teach me than people trained in the art of teaching!

Hand made tool

I have made my own tool using flatbar stock metal, rivets and wood. I also put a 50/50 of oil and plastic finish on the handle to make it look nice

Potatoes!

My potatoes are growing! These tiny sprouts are 1-1/2" tall and they have been growing with bone meal and plant food together, they have also been getting approx. 1 gallon of water an hour. they are doing well and only one other bag has signs of growth.

Watch "Pogo3D - Upular (Virtual 3D)" on YouTube

French!

So some of my friends were wondering how I'm doing french in the NLC. So in the way the NLC does french is through Rosetta Stone, If you don't know what that is its a computer based language teaching system... I guess you could call it. The way it teaches is by matching pictures and words, it teaches you the language the same way you would learn as a small child. The language lesson is split up into levels and the levels are split into smaller lessons. I like this way of learning because you get to interact with the language and not just write it down on a piece of paper. The rosetta stone goes a lot faster than the regular classes, which I like. I have already learned more than an average grade nine only using rosetta stone. Well, that was my little comment of what I'm doing. Au revior! ;)

Wooden Plate!

Ah, a new week a new assignment. This week we will be making plates in my woodwork class, I'm particularly excited about this assignment because I like making things and working with wood, we have use a couple big tools already and I have to admit i was nervous but who wouldn't be? We used the miter saw last week to cut our wood from the stock and today we used the plainer to flatten our wood so that it is even. Some people preferred the hand plainer because the wood shop teacher drew a finger on a thin piece of wood and took the "finger" off in a split second with the tool... I didn't let this faze me because there was no way my fingers were getting near that little spinning blade. I always had that little thought in the back of my mind that re-played the chunk of wood disappearing into saw dust in seconds, only that could've been my finger. Needless to say, I pained my wood and its super flat and smooth so the next step in gluing the two pieces together but that will be next class. But anyways, bye for now ^-^

Little rant of what I like to do and hope to do

Hi all! I think that is is important to know what you are going to do later in your life when you are in high school or at least have an idea so I'm going to share with you some ideas I have for during and after my high school life :)
I have a couple of interests that will help me plan what jobs I could do later on in life. Some of my passions in life are crafts, baking and making things pretty. I love to draw and doodle but I'm not good at it. When I was younger I would take plasticine and make little figurines like pigs and octopuses. With my passion for crafting and baking came the idea of culinary arts. I think I would love to be a baker and make cakes that are so gorgeous and creative that some day I will have my own T.V show or even work for a famous baker like Buddy from cake boss. I have always had a passion for designing things so I have made multiple "cakes" out of play dough. I have always been proud of my creativity and abilities to make little creatures and figures. I have talked to my aunt (she is very crafty also) about making cakes and we have agreed to make my own birthday cake, I am particularly excited about this because I have a love for pigs and I already have an idea of what my cake will look like. I have a very ambitious mind so I will think of something that is wild and awesome in my mind but when the time comes for me to do/make what I have in my mind it gets so out of hand that I cant do it and it upsets me. My idea for my cake will be a half circle with pink icing and a pig nose and ears made of fondant. I really hope you enjoyed this little peek into what I'm like and what I hope to do in the future! If you have any suggestions (cake ideas ;) ) or questions please feel free to ask/ say in the comments and I will answer/ reply as best and as fast as I can! Also check out my other blog posts!

Math time!

Well its math time for me and we are learning linear relations and studying over-consumption. The class was split into groups of up to 3 or four and we were all told to pick a topic. Now me being me, I picked coffee because i think that people drink large quantities of coffee everyday without noticing how much of it we are drinking. I have taken one statistic from a website and enlarged it. By "enlarging" the statistic i mean the stat. i took was that an average coffee cup size is 9 ounces and every average adult drinks 3.1 cups every day. I took those statistics and figured out that the average person consumes 172.2 liters of coffee every month, which is a startling amount. Anyways guys, that is what I'm doing in the NLC and I will definitely try to update weekly!

SCHOOL GARDEN!

Hi, all! Update! :
We are making a green house for our school! I'm really excited for this project because we will be building the entire thing from scratch and this is just a great way for the NLC to be  part of our school because i constantly feel "dis-Connected" from the school so we will be collaborating with the home economics (foods) classes to help plant the fruits and veggies once we are done building the greenhouse. So the plan for our greenhouse will be in our Tech-Ed class we will put together blueprints for the green house and build our own planter boxes! Long story short- we are making a greenhouse from scratch and plant our own vegetables and fruits :) If anyone has any suggestions or questions please feel free to comment because we need all the help and ideas we can get!

The Northern Learning Center

Hello, this is the program that I'm in and it's a project based learning program that learns with projects instead of papers. The Northern Learning center is an incredible program and I love it because its different but at the same time you are learning the same curriculum as the rest of the school.
We are often looked upon as a group of children who learn differently because we cannot learn like the other students. I find that the program is much easier to learn in than the regular school program because they focus mainly on the things you need to know and not the things that you don't need to know. Anyway, that is the program that I'm in and I hope you follow me on my educating adventure. :)

This is the Northern Learning Center's Blog:

Hi guys :)

Hi guys, this is my blog that is all about what I've done in my time at school, so this is my adventure and I'd love for you to join me :)
